Giving USA has published its latest data on charitable giving. To many it comes as no surprise that charitable giving is down this year. Giving has dropped by the largest percentage in fifty years.
The biggest surprise in this study has come from which types of organizations are seeing the largest drops in giving. In the past charities that exist to take care of basic human needs – shelters, food banks, etc which see much more demand for their services during difficult economic times – experience a lower drop in giving. However, in the past year, they too have been hit hard by a decrease in philanthropic giving.
These charities and other nonprofits are not feeling hopeful as they project into next year…
