VacationHomesForCharity.org has commissioned several reports and articles that should help charities and non-profit organizations. The first of several publications is entitled “Forecast on Giving During a Recession”.
INTRO
The murmurings of a downward spiraling economy have turned into a shout over the past year. Companies have been forced to take a serious look at their financial situation as company after company have announced layoffs, cutbacks or simply have closed their doors. So what does this mean for nonprofits? Traditionally (and statistically) Americans have given generously even when economic times have been tough. With more than 50% of charities reporting losses already this year, even though many Americans may want to give they just are not able to.
The following report takes a look at not only some of the historic trends, but gives charities an idea of what they can expect from donors in this economic climate. Even amidst cutbacks, charities can take this economic downturn as an opportunity to better understand their donors, what motivates them, create new ways donors can give, and strengthen their donor and financial base.
