Since the last edition of the newsletter, we have lost The Lion of The Senate, Ted Kennedy, a man who committed his life to public service and to providing a dedicated liberal voice to the Senate chamber. While the press has been focusing on his last years of life, Senator Kennedy’s vision and now legacy of social change cannot be underestimated.
Beyond the multiple tragedies Senator Kennedy endured, a lifetime in the spotlight which was not flattering at all times we may forget his commitment on many fronts to assist those less fortunate from a patriarch of one of the wealthiest and privileged families in the United States.
While the vast majority of us will never become powerful icons within the government advocating on behalf of those who cannot, we have a moral and ethical obligation to continue Senator Kennedy’s work. This legacy may include our own outreach and following up from last week, teaching our children and younger generations the importance of philanthropy.
For us at TheSociety.com and VacationHomesforCharity.org, we too wish to “give-back”. While we have witnessed more than one eyebrow raised when discussing vacation homes and charity in the same sentence, we have been fortunate with VacationHomesforCharity.org to design a program providing vacation homeowners the opportunity to support charities and non-profits via their vacation residence.
To date, $150,000+ has been raised. VacationHomeforCharity.org began 2009 with the goal to raise $250,000 for charities and non-profits by year-end. With the fall social season upon us, the target of $250,000 is not only achievable but may be surpassed. Charitable and non-profit organizations benefiting to date include: Children’s literacy, animal shelters, safe houses, cancer care assistance and research, environment preservation and others. To not give is to easily forget.
